Mr. Sheehan says that every year, St. Isidore 8th grade students participate in the VFW Patriot’s Pen contest, which challenges them to write a 300-400 word essay describing patriotism, freedom, or a related patriotic theme as determined by the sponsoring VFW Chapter’s Commander-in-Chief.
Eighth- and sixth-graders participated in the annual Veterans of Foreign Wars national essay contest “Patriot’s Pen,” writing on the theme of “What patriotism means to me.” Students.
The Patriot’s Pen is an essay contest given by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. This year the students had to write about what Patriotism means to them. Every year Asbury Park Middle School students participate in this essay contest. Their essays are wellwritten and stress the ideas of what Patriotism means to them. Each year, more than 130,000 students participate in the Patriot’s Pen Essay Competition. Students are invited to write a 300-400-word essay on a patriotic theme.
Students enrolled in grades 6-8 may enter the Patriot’s Pen essay contest. The theme is chosen annually by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. This year the theme is “What Patriotism Means to Me.
Next, it is time to start drafting considering the 2013-2014 theme, “What Patriotism Means to Me.” Essays must be no less than 300 words and cannot exceed 400 words and should be submitted to the Post, along with the completed Patriot’s Pen entry form no later than the November 1 deadline.
Young Patriot's Pen essay contest winners were honored Feb. 16 by Rehoboth VFW Post 7447 and its Ladies Auxiliary. The Patriot's Pen essay contest, sponsored by the VFW, gives students an opportunity to prepare an original typewritten essay of 300-400 words expressing their views on democracy on a different given topic each year.
